Mary H. Hilliard, state retiree
Mary H. Hilliard, 99, of Selbyville, went property to be with her heavenly relatives Thursday, March 10, 2022, surrounded by her loved kinds at her home. She was born Dec. 17, 1922, in Wilson, N.C., the oldest of 12 children, of the late George Hagans and Lou Carrie Polk.
Mary received her education in Wilson, N.C. She afterwards satisfied and married her late partner, Dorsey Hilliard Sr. in 1941. They later moved to Delaware and from this union came six kids. Dorsey Hilliard Sr. passed away in 1994.
Mary usually beloved to study, which lead her to an in-depth analyze of the Bible. Mary analyzed with Walter and Louise Gaillord, and was baptized as a Jehovahs Witness July 19, 1972. She spent a lot of hrs sharing her Bible studying with loved ones and friends.
Mary was utilized as a cook at the Lighthouse Diner and Philip C. Showell College in Selbyville. She also labored for the State of Delaware as a prepare dinner at the Stockley Heart in Georgetown, from which she retired. Following her retirement from the condition, Mary worked at Flower Haven in Selbyville. In the course of this time, she and her husband opened Bob Jacks Disco as well as Pool Place in Williamsville, a location for younger black young children to go and have enjoyment.
Mary experienced a lot of hobbies and interests. Mary, affectionately regarded as Mama, Mother-Mom, Mom Mary, Mom Hilliard, Miss out on Mary, Aunt Mary, Aunt Pie, Sister Mary, and Sister Hilliard was loved by a lot of, and she will be deeply missed by all who understood her.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her son, Lonnie Hilliard her grandsons: John Hilliard Jr., Ronald Hilliard, and Brian MacKenzie her brothers: David Pope and George, Melvin, Albert, and Isaac Hagans and her sisters: Reba Hagans, Sarah Smith, and Minnie Singletary.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her daughters: Annie Useful (Lemuel) of Selbyville, and Reva Bivens (Denver) of Roxana her sons: John Hilliard (Rosetta), Dorsey Hilliard Jr., and Connie Hilliard (Maureen), all of Selbyville her sisters: Luetta Bridges of Middlesex, N.C., and Arsmithe Harris of Richmond, Va. her brother, Willie Hagans Sr. of Galveston, Texas and her sister-in-law, Margie Hagans of Selbyville. Mary has several grandchildren, fantastic-grandchildren, great-excellent-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends. Making up four generations, this is her legacy.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 9, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Clarksville Chapel, 34874 Atlantic Ave., Ocean View, in which pals may possibly check out commencing at 2 p.m. Interment will be personal.
